Obituary
Elsie Mary Angers
December 27, 1933 – September 6, 2026
Elsie Angers passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026, at the age of 92.
Born in Fort William to Anne and Frank Delvecchio, Elsie moved to Sarnia in 1973, where she built a life filled with family, laughter and love. Elsie enjoyed a long career in fashion retail, and her passion for fashion carried on throughout her lifetime.
Elsie was the beloved wife of Henry Angers, “Archie” to her, who predeceased her in 2014. She leaves behind her children, Jeffrey (Mary Ellen) and Jennifer.
Family was everything to Elsie, especially her grandchildren, Maximilian, Lauren, Emily and Sarah, who lovingly called her GMa. A visit to GMa’s house meant a tickle trunk full of toys and clothes, plenty of ice cream, pop and goodies, and, of course, a Christmas that was always made extra special.
Elsie was a true renaissance woman. She loved sports, fashion, art and learning. There was usually a crossword puzzle on the table, “Jeopardy!” was must-see TV, and she loved reading biographies about interesting people. She was always knitting, crocheting or sewing something. She had a remarkable green thumb and took great pride in her gardens. Having said this, Elsie's absolute favourite hobby was shopping, especially for a great bargain.
Animals were a lifelong love, and there was almost always a beloved pet in the house. Most recently, Winnie was always by her side, while Ginger, Tucker and Bruin each held a special place in her heart.
Elsie was also a passionate sports fan. The Red Wings were her favourite hockey team, largely because her brother was Alex Delvecchio. She shared many wonderful times with Alex, his wife Judy and Hank.
She loved staying active through walking, golfing and bowling, and treasured the friendships she made through her ladies’ bowling and golfing leagues.
Elsie was the sister of Tony (Jeanine), Frankie (Millie), Laura (Maurice) and Alex (Judy), and a much-loved aunt to many nieces and nephews.
If you knew Elsie, you knew she could be a little spicy. She had a wonderful sense of humour and a personality that was entirely her own. She was never afraid to speak her mind, and those who loved her wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Her home was always open, and over the years, many friends became family.
The family would like to thank everyone who called or visited Elsie in her later years. She treasured those visits and, most of all, the opportunity to share a good laugh.
A special thank you to her PSWs, Lidia, Brittany, Jody and Amy, for their kindness and care; to the EMS crews who came whenever they were needed; and to the doctors and staff at Bluewater Health who cared for her in her final days.
And to Susan and Monika, thank you for being there for Elsie and Jen, especially during these last three weeks. Your love, vigilance and care meant everything. You made sure she was never alone and that she was surrounded by people who loved her. Susan and Monika, you truly became Elsie’s other two daughters, and we will always be grateful for that.
As per Elsie’s wishes, there will be a small Celebration of Life for family and close friends.
In keeping with Elsie’s lifelong love of animals, donations in her memory to the Sarnia Humane Society would be appreciated.
Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Elsie’s Guestbook” at mccormackaquamationburialandcremationservices.com.
Elsie leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, love and plenty of stories. She was uniquely and unapologetically herself, and she will be deeply missed.
